ANNA E. CARTWRIGHT-ELSIE M. HARLOW SCHOLARSHIP FUND

Within her will, Elsie Harlow outlined her desire to establish a perpetual endowment fund at the University of Idaho. The endowment is to be used for the benefit of graduates of Mullan High School. It shall be called: The Anna E. Cartwright-Elsie M. Harlow Scholarship Fund.

I.       SELECTION CRITERIA

         A.      Priority

The scholarship shall be available to students who are graduates of Mullan High School and who wish to further their educational pursuits on a full time basis at the University of Idaho or other institution of higher learning. Students will be considered according to the following priority criteria:

1.       Current seniors and graduates who plan to attend the University of Idaho.

2.       Current seniors and graduates who plan to attend other in-state schools.

3.       Current seniors and graduates who plan to attend out of state schools.

         B.      Qualifications

1.       Students applying for this scholarship will be judged and ranked on a point system based on the information provided on the application form. Applications will be prioritized by the Board of Directors of the Mullan Education Foundation and forwarded to the University of Idaho office of Financial Aid for final determination.

2.       Students must have attended school in the Mullan district at least two years prior to graduation. An applicant must be a full- time student at Mullan High School, Taking all available required MHS courses.

3.       Students and parents/legal guardians must have resided or been employed in Mullan at least two years prior to graduation.

4.              Any inappropriate moral or social conduct, such as detention or arrest by law enforcement officers, may have an impact on the selection of any applicant.

5.       A student must enroll full time to be eligible for the scholarship.

 

 

 

II.      DIRECTIONS FOR APPLICATION

A.      Each application must be typed and presented in booklet form. Regular sized folders are to be used, and materials must be fastened securely. Each application must include information in the following order:

1.       A complete application form (minus the instructions).

2.       A transcript of high school courses.

B.      Three letters of recommendation must be mailed directly to Mullan School District by the person writing the recommendation. Two of the recommendations must be non-school related, such as an employer, minister, or neighbor. One must be from a person for whom you have done community service. None may be from a family member. (Recommendation forms are included with the application)

B.      Applications must be postmarked or received in the Mullan School District office no later than February 15.

III.     RECIPIENTS

Scholarship recipients will be notified at the high school awards assembly in May. The recipient of the scholarship will receive half the amount of the scholarship each semester at the financial office of the institution in which he/she is enrolled.

Mrs. Harlow's wishes were that, at some time in the future, the recipient would repay to the endowment the amount that he/she had received, thus helping to perpetuate the fund for the benefit of other Mullan High School graduates.
